Bringing Happiness to Children's Meals with Shin Kong Small Farmers

 

Last year, Shin Kong Financial Holding Co., Ltd. (2888) subsidiary Shin Kong Life, in collaboration with the Council of Agriculture, launched the "Shin Kong One-Acre Happiness Dining Table" ESG green public welfare project. They signed the "Common Good Pledge" with numerous local small farmers, showing their concern for Taiwan's sustainable agricultural development and committing to community public welfare actions. This year, in celebration of Shin Kong's 60th anniversary and as a gesture of gratitude to the land that nurtured Shin Kong and the Taiwanese people who have long supported it, Shin Kong invited its small farmer partners to personally deliver delicious vegetables to the children at the Grassroots Book House in Sanxia and Daxi, allowing the children at these two locations to indulge in the joy of festive gatherings.

 

The "Grassroots Book House," located in Sanxia, New Taipei City, was established by a group of returning young people and volunteers as a community care and nurturing system for children and adolescents in need of high attention. It provides free meals during school hours to prevent children from hunger and, with the company of teachers and volunteers, cultivates a positive and proactive attitude towards life. In 2020, the base expanded to Daxi to accompany more children in their growth. As the founding philosophy aligns with the public welfare concept of Shin Kong One-Acre Happiness Dining Table's small farmer partners, in addition to donating self-grown agricultural products, farmers also allocate funds from the proceeds of the Shin Kong Small Farmer Market to sponsor the purchase of seasonal vegetables, hoping that children can not only eat enough but also eat well.

 

The participating Shin Kong small farmers expressed that they themselves live near the Grassroots Book House and were unaware that there was such a caring place for children in Sanxia. It was only through responding to Shin Kong's call to participate in serving meals that they had the opportunity to become acquainted. They were moved and felt a sense of mission in giving back to the community. Vice Principal Ruan Jia-Zhen of the Grassroots Book House expressed that the children regard the Book House as their second home. Even as they grow up, they still return to reunite with their families during festivals. She thanked Shin Kong Life and the small farmers for their generous vegetable donations, allowing the children to eat healthily and feel the atmosphere of happiness.

 

The "Shin Kong One-Acre Happiness Dining Table" gathers small farmers who have signed the "Common Good Pledge" to jointly promote a friendly environment for sustainable dining. They regularly hold small farmer markets and joint procurement activities to stabilize farmers' income. With a cumulative sales amount exceeding NT$40 million, more people are willing to join the ranks of friendly agriculture and community public welfare feedback. Shin Kong Life also upholds the spirit of guardianship in the insurance industry by launching the "Eating with Peace of Mind" policy, which provides enhanced protection for digestive system diseases (Eating with Peace of Mind Lifetime Health Insurance Additional Terms). This policy has received multiple accolades, including the "2023 Asia Corporate Social Responsibility Award" and the "TSAA Asia Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Award." The warmth of Shin Kong will continue to shine into the corners that need it and become a sustainable driving force for the common good in Taiwanese society.
