Shin Kong Life Wins "Corporate Social Responsibility Award"

Shin Kong Life, a subsidiary of Shin Kong Financial Holding Co., Ltd. (2888), has deeply engaged in the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) field, committed to sustainable corporate development, and responded to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By developing sustainable strategies linked to its core business through concrete actions for a "Sustainable Earth" and "Common Good", Shin Kong Life has been awarded the "Corporate Social Responsibility Award" at the China Times Financial Services Evaluation.

Promoting a "Sustainable Earth", Shin Kong Life is acutely aware of the damage marine debris can cause to the environment. The United Nations has even listed marine debris as a global crisis second only to climate change. In response, Shin Kong Life initiated the "Clean Ocean Project", launching comprehensive beach and ocean clean-up efforts. In 2023, company volunteers conducted beach clean-ups in Shimen, New Taipei, and Baishatun, Miaoli, removing a total of 663 pounds of marine waste. These clean-ups included marine ecology education courses to raise public awareness about ocean conservation. Additionally, in collaboration with the Shin Kong Charity Foundation, they held five "Hundred-Person Relay Underwater Clean-Ups", removing 2,930 kilograms of marine debris. Starting this year, Shin Kong Life will further cultivate "underwater cleaners" by recruiting 12 company volunteers to obtain PADI Open Water Diver certification and Dive Against Debris specialty certification, engaging in underwater clean-up efforts to protect marine ecosystems comprehensively.

In fostering a "Common Good", Shin Kong Life advocates for sustainable agriculture and sustainable diets. Since 2018, the company has established the "Shin Kong Farmers Market" in the plaza of the Shin Kong Tower, providing free stalls for small farmers to sell high-quality agricultural products. As of the end of last year, sales exceeded NT$49.8 million, stabilizing farmers' incomes. In 2022, they launched the "Shin Kong Happiness Table" project, signing the "Common Good Pledge" with 67 local small farmers in Taiwan to encourage environmentally friendly production methods. This enables consumers to purchase low-carbon, sustainable food within the shortest food mileage. In 2023, Shin Kong, along with its small farming partners, donated about 380 pounds of local produce to three disadvantaged groups: the Miaoli St. Francis Girls' Home, Pingtung Care Home, and Sanxia Grass Book House in New Taipei, creating a chain of public welfare and amplifying the impact of sustainability. This year, they are further promoting the "Sustainable Food and Zero Waste" initiative, rallying small farmers to donate near-expiry quality produce to the Taiwan Food Bank Federation, giving a second life to fruits and vegetables facing elimination, reducing carbon emissions, and helping disadvantaged families not only to eat enough but also to eat well.

Shin Kong Financial Holding, with the sustainable spirit of "Low-carbon, Innovation, and Common good", actively promotes sustainable corporate management, implementing actions across all ESG aspects. The company has been selected for the "Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI)" for three consecutive years, achieving the second-best global ranking and the top Asian ranking in the insurance category. Their "social" performance is particularly outstanding, placing them in the top 2% of the global insurance industry, demonstrating Shin Kong's significant achievements in sustainable development. Moving forward, Shin Kong Life will continue to uphold its high sense of mission, persist in doing things beneficial to society, and the honor of receiving the "Corporate Social Responsibility Award" not only recognizes past efforts but also encourages them to expand their positive impact, striving for a better and more sustainable society.
