Shin Kong Life Insurance Strengthens Community Welfare Chain to Amplify Sustainable Impact
"Mark Wei, Chairman of Shin Kong Life Insurance, a subsidiary of Shin Kong Financial Holding Co., Ltd. (2888), attended the unveiling ceremony of the new residence of the Saint Francis Girls' Home in Miaoli County, affiliated with the Catholic Diocese of Hsinchu, on March 6. During the ceremony, he presented a certificate of appreciation, thanking Shin Kong Life Insurance for its resources and assistance. On the same day, colleagues from Shin Kong Life Insurance and partners from local farmers in Miaoli also donated locally grown fruits and vegetables, providing nutritious food for the growing girls. Through the support of local farmers, resources are retained in the community, becoming a sustainable driving force for community outreach.
The procurement costs for this donation come from the "Shin Kong One-Acre Happiness Dining Table" ESG Green Public Welfare Project. Shin Kong Life Insurance and many local Taiwanese farmers have signed a "Goodness Covenant," caring for sustainable agriculture in Taiwan while committing to community welfare actions. A portion of the proceeds from consumer spending at the Shin Kong Life Farmers' Market will be allocated to the Goodness Fund to support local community welfare initiatives, promoting a longer-term sustainable consumption cycle.
In addition to caring for the physical health of the girls through dietary support, Shin Kong Life Insurance, under the leadership of Chairman Mark Wei, upholds its core business of insurance, promoting the Saint Francis Girls' Home Microinsurance Sponsorship Program. This program provides basic life protection and plans to start from an educational perspective, cultivating young people who participate in independent living programs, enhancing their financial literacy and protection against fraud, allowing them to better plan their lives, utilize their talents in the future, and give back to society. From self-help to helping others, through the welfare chain and Shin Kong Life Insurance, they co-create more sustainable impact.
The Saint Francis Girls' Home has long been an institution of concern for Chairman Wei Baosheng of Shin Kong Life Insurance. Inspired by Father Yang Anren, Chairman Wei established the "Public Welfare Trust Huanchang Charity Fund" in 2011 in the name of his father, sponsoring Father Yang's "Independent Living Program" for orphaned and disadvantaged youth in Miaoli County, specifically covering the monthly living expenses of young people aged 18 to 22 who leave the center, as well as the costs of various cultural, educational, artistic, and sports activities for the girls and boys in the center. So far, the amount of sponsorship has reached nearly 10 million NT dollars over 13 years. Under the careful care of the Girls' Home, there have been a total of 83 service cases, with over 70 young people leaving the institution to live independently, about half of whom have been supported through the Huanchang Charity Fund. Bishop Li Kechun also presented the "Cultivation and Dedication Award" to Chairman Wei in recognition of his dedication.
The new residence of the Saint Francis Girls' Home was designed by renowned architect Zhang Jingyao, with the reception hall adorned with two artworks recommended by Chairman Wei from the Blue Knight Gallery: "Seggo la note" and "Wedding," enhancing the space with an artistic appreciation atmosphere, hoping that the girls who have experienced family trauma can cultivate their temperament and enjoy the pleasures of life like other peers. Chairman Wei stated, "With a more comfortable new home, the girls will be better prepared for adaptation to society and will have more confidence in the future"!
Following the sustainable values of its parent company Shin Kong Financial Holding Co., Ltd., "low carbon, innovation, and goodness," Shin Kong Life Insurance actively promotes sustainable business operations, upholding the concept of giving back to society, emphasizing connections and interactions with local residents. It has been selected as a component stock of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for three consecutive years and achieved the remarkable accomplishment of being ranked second globally and first in Asia in the insurance category in 2023. In the future, it will implement actions in various aspects of ESG through strategic objectives to continuously amplify its sustainable impact.
